TMC wins Howrah Lok Sabha bypoll

TMC wins Howrah Lok Sabha bypoll

Calcutta, June 5: The Trinamul Congress has won the crucial byelection for the Howrah Lok Sabha seat, with its candidate Prasun Banerjee defeating his nearest rival, Srideep Bhattacharya of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), by 27, 015 votes.

Banerjee bagged 4,26,273 votes, whereas Srideep Bhattacharya managed 3,99,258 votes.

According to ABP Ananda TV, the TMC has won in five out of seven Assembly segments in the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency area.

The CPI(M) has won only Sankrail and Howrah (South) Assembly areas.

The Indian National Congress managed the third position with its candidate Sanatan Mukherjee getting only 96,727 votes.

The byelection was called after Ambica Banerjee, the TMC member representing Howrah, passed away in April this year.
