Killing Machine In High Gear Again, 4 More Dead

Srinagar, July 30, KONS: Kashmir's roll call of the "dead in police firing" went up four names more as a fresh round of killings began on Friday after a rumour about an upper city youth succumbing to forces' gunfire set off severe unrest.
The killings took place in Sopore and Pattan, the latter town witnessing an attack on a police station and retaliatory firing by the forces, leaving the local hospital piled up with over a hundred injured.
According to one report, forces personnel mounted on a vehicle opened fire as a group of youth were running into a lane on being chased by police and CRPF.
Iqbal, one of the eight persons injured in the firing, was rushed to the SKIMS, where according to the medical superintendent, he had been put on ventilator because of his critical condition.

The victims, identified as 17-year-old Shaukat Ahmad Wagay and 50-year-old Muhammad Ahsan Ganai, were pronounced dead on arrival at the SMHS hospital here.
Eyewitnesses said that the paramilitary forces had opened unprovoked fire on protestors, while the police maintained that they had feared that the mobs would destroy the railway line during the violence.
PATTAN: In Pattan township in Baramulla district a 14-year-old boy was killed when police opened indiscriminate fire on an angry mob who tried to storm a local police station.
Eyewitnesses said that people were protesting after the Friday prayers against the disappearance of 17-year-old Farooq Bukhari of Kreeri, allegedly in police custody a few days ago. When the angry protesters were passing through an SOG camp the cops stationed there opened fire injuring several protesters.

Eyewitnesses, however, said that the forces personnel had targeted the procession with heavy tear gassing and firing, leaving nearly a hundred people injured.

The doctors said that most of the over 100 casualties brought to the hospital had gunshot wounds on their bodies.
