SUDHIR DHAWALE MUKTATA ABHIYAAN

Those who tolerate wrongs are greater wrongdoers than the perpetrators
themselves
RELEASE DALIT WRITER AND EDITOR SUDHIR DHAWALE NOW!!

Press Note

Press Conference held by the Sudhir Dhawale Muktata Abhiyaan at the
Janta Dal (Secular) Office, Mumbai, on January 11, 2011.

Bhai Vaidya, freedom fighter, former Home Minister of Maharashtra, and
Leader, Samajwadi Jan Parishad:
He declared in vociferous and no uncertain terms terms that Sudhir is
not a Naxalite, and for that matter, nobody espousing the cause of
Dalits, Adivasis, the poor, marginalised, oppressed, and downtrodden,
is- contrary to what the State would force people to believe. Sudhir
is first and foremost an Ambedkarite, and he shall always remain so.
Vaidya recalled an incident dating back to his tenure as Home
Minister. In a village in the Marathwada region, a tehsiladar caught
red-handed embezzling public funds had his face blackened and was
paraded on a donkey by the villagers. When the local police brought
this incident to Vaidya's attention and requested him to take
stringent action against the 'Naxalites' who had dared to do this, he
had replied that the tehsildar had got just what he deserved, and
those who meted out justice to him should not be branded as Naxalites.

He used this anecdote to drive home the point as to which side he was on.
Ramdas Athawale, ex-MP, and President, Republican Party of India:
Athawale firmly said that Sudhir is an Ambeedkarite who is fighting
for the cause of dignity and justice for Dalits and Adivasis. He said
that everyone was keenly watching the court proceedings and if Sudhir
was not discharged from police custody and released immediately, an
intensive state and nation-wide campaign shall be launched. He minced
no words to make it clear that he was issuing an ultimatum to R.R.
Patil, the State and all concerned authorities.

J.V. Pawar, Dalit writer and founder member, Dalit Panthers : Pawar
pulled no punches, either. He called on the State to release Sudhir
immediately and drop all the baseless and concocted charges, or else
brace up to confront a tidal wave of violent agitation.

Darshana Dhawale, wife of Sudhir Dhawale: She recounted her and her
children's traumatic experience of the 6 hours long illegal search,
interrogation and seizure operation carried out by the police at her
house, and said that Sudhir's persecution proved that if a journalist,
writer or even a lay person was found to be in possession of any
literature on Ambedkar, Arundhati Roy, Marx or Lenin, he would also be
persecuted in the same was as that of Sudhir.
