Bandh, Curfew, Curbs Silence Kashmir Valley http://www.kashmirobserver.net/ The situation in the valley remained by-and-large peaceful for the day except for late evening tear gassing of protestors and ensuing clashes in Baramulla where the district administration had held a key meeting with the local coordination committee earlier. Brought under curbs to contain the fallout of two successive killings in a span of three days, seething Baramulla had witnessed severe bouts of violence yesterday, but was restricted indoors on Wednesday by early-morning announcements by loudspeaker-mounted vehicles proclaiming a formal curfew. They also complained of severe difficulties due to suspension of mobile services in Baramulla and Sopore. Heavy contingents of the police and the paramilitary forces were moved in many uptown areas as well, adversely impacting ordinary civilian movement. The government has reverted to curfews and severe curbs to foil protests and demonstrations announced by the Hurriyat (G)'s calendar which has paralyzed Kashmir since the recent round of civilian killings by the forces started in the valley. Downtown Srinagar, usually restive and volatile, remained calm today, with the undeclared curfew appearing to have some effect.
