Stand With the Georgia Prisoners' Strike

On Jan. 15, we will celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. Politicians and the media will celebrate his "I have a dream" speech while never mentioning his staunch opposition to the Vietnam War or his passionate efforts to organize sanitation workers.

Dr. King called for "radical changes in the structure of our society" to redistribute wealth and power. "True compassion," he declared, "is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."

Join us for a discussion on:

  • The pro-worker legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
  • The struggle against war and racism today
  • Budget cuts planned by the D.C. Council
  • What we can do to fight back
Georgia Prisoners

Stand With the Georgia Prisoners' Strike

Almost 40 years after the Attica prison strikes, prisoners are still fighting for basic human rights and experiencing violent repercussions. On Dec. 9, prisoners in six correctional facilities across Georgia began a coordinated strike, refusing to report to work. Inmates reached across the often violent divide between nationalities to demand human rights, living wages, and access to education, among other rights, and were met with violent repression from prison guards.

Join us for a discussion about:

  • The demands made by the prisoners
  • The role of mass incarceration of working-class people in a capitalist economy
  • How we can dismantle the Prison-Industrial Complex
  • The importance of solidarity with our incarcerated sisters and brothers
