Many scholars around the world have interpreted the charismatic "People's War in Nepal" through diverse perspectives but just few of them have analyze the whole movement with an entire approach. Deepak Sapkota, a young working progressive journalist, experienced with reporting in the historic Maoist revolution has recently published a book entitled Ten Years of Upheaval analyzing the 'Maoist People's War in Nepal' with an entire approach.
This book will assist the readers to know the facts of adventurous struggle by the countryside people with an aim to establish a society based on equity, fairness, justice and their genuine sacrifice towards the transformation. The Ten year long People's War led by CPN (Maoist) and fought by the people of Himalayan country was not only towards the freedom and sovereignty from the feudalist monarch reign but also towards the horizon of a vast consciousness.
Divided into 18 chapters, this book sheds lights on how the Maoist envisioned the armed struggle, how they intensified and expanded it despite international attempts to crush it, and the achievements the People's War brought about in Nepal. The vivid account of the People's War presented in the book will assist the readers to analyse the movement in informed and objective manner. This book is the first analytical work on People's War presented in chronological manner.
The book covers the issues like Preparation of People's War, its declaration, The military strategies and tactics, Women Participation in the War, People's government, court and commune are the dimensions analyzed within the reportage in various chapters. In same way, the foreign assistance to fight against the Maoists, communication strategy of Maoist, dialogue process, development of thought, and peace agreement is also covered in the book.
The book consists of the major events happened in the period of People's war till 21 November 2006, the date of signing the Peace accord from the initiation. This will be helpful to the researchers, journalists, students and other common readers. This book is also helpful to understand the history of communist and armed movement in Nepal.
