Subject: Mail Box "The unexpected rise of dalit millionaires" Swaminathan
S.Anklesaria Aiyar-Sunday Times of India 31.7.11
To: sunday.times@timesgroup.com

Sir,
The rise in economic graph of Dalit millionaires like Bhagwan Gawai, Sushil
Patil, Ashok Khade, and Balu, as revelled by author is understandable. But
his satisfaction over the empowerment of Dalits for the entry into the
millionaire zone by a few microscopic minority (only four as per the
article)betrays his myopic vision. Is it sapient to rejoice over the
summer with the measly number of swallows? Are we atleast alive to the
scores of owes and humiliation still being suffered by the crores of Dalits
through shamful social ,financial marginalisation for centuries ?
The unreal portrayal of the general access of the green pastures for
Dalits is a bundle of imagination, let alone the motive the article
carries. Better, the reputed dailies like Times of India is sympathetic to
the cursed lot of the society, who are yet to reply to the injustice
perpetrated on them, though the protest of Left party against such
discrimation, now in nascent stage, is yet to gain momentum. Had the press
managers taken adequate care in this direction, such half baked bread would
not have been served to the readers.
