In Solidarity with Nepal

In Solidarity with Nepal
omnath Mukherji <somnath@aidindia.org>

On the afternoon of April 25th, 2015, an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 scale struck Nepal. The disaster has been catastrophic with thousands dead and hundreds of thousands left homeless. Kathmandu, the capital, has lost many heritage monuments and many rural areas are still completely cut off from the rest of the country. The scale of the disaster is such that according to some estimates, financial and infrastructural recovery is likely to take at least a decade or more.

In this hour of tragedy, Association for India's Development (AID) stands in solidarity with the survivors of the earthquake in Nepal and in India. We hope that relief efforts are able to reach all the affected families and that they are able to begin the process of rebuilding their lives.

We are grateful to many of you who have asked us about supporting relief work in Nepal. Over the last few days, our volunteers have been attempting to reach out to various groups and communities to determine ways to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.  Our organization's charter limits our ability to raise funds for supporting activities only within India but we urge you to consider supporting our partners involved in relief efforts and other international relief organizations

Our partner organizations who are involved in relief efforts:

Goonj: AID has partnered with Goonj before on flood relief efforts in Uttarakhand and Kashmir in 2014. Please watch their website for update on donations.

ESG: AID has worked with the Environment Support Group on a number of past and current environment projects.

International relief organizations working in Nepal:

Oxfam

Doctors Without Borders

Facebook and International Medical Corps
