UN Security Council Approves Pact On Iranian Nuclear Programs
By Peter Symonds

http://www.countercurrents.org/symonds210715.htm

The UN Security Council yesterday voted 15-0 to approve a resolution putting in place key elements of the nuclear agreement reached last week between Iran and the P-6 group—the US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany. The resolution paves the way for the lifting of most UN sanctions on Iran once it has implemented severe restrictions on every aspect of its nuclear programs

Israel, Iran And The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
By John Scales Avery

http://www.countercurrents.org/avery210715.htm

I do not wish to say that Iran's present government is without serious faults. However, any use of violence against Iran would be both insane and criminal. Why insane? Because the present economy of the US and the world cannot support another large-scale conflict; because the Middle East is already a deeply troubled region; and because it is impossible to predict the extent of a war which, if once started, might develop into World War III, given the fact that Iran is closely allied with both Russia and China. Why criminal? Because such violence would violate both the UN Charter and the Nuremberg Principles. There is no hope at all for the future unless we work for a peaceful world, governed by international law, rather than a fearful world where brutal power holds sway

Socialist Argentina Helping People In Fascist Paraguay
By Andre Vltchek

http://www.countercurrents.org/vltchek210715.htm

Argentina is socialist, with free medical care and mostly free education. It has progressive government. It sent creditors, World Bank and IMF packing. It defaulted its debt, which was accumulated during the right wing andpro-Western governments (Greece should study and follow Argentina's model). Paraguay is a divided country. Even according to the BBC, fewer than 2% of the landowners are said to control 70% of its arable land. Other sources put the number to 75% and higher. Periodically, indigenous people demand their land back, and periodically, they get murdered

"Christmas In July" In Absurdityville, USA
By Gary Corseri

http://www.countercurrents.org/corseri210715.htm

Perhaps during this "Christmas in July," we would be wise to wipe the snowflakes from our eyes and consider this old algorithm from the Book of Proverbs: "Then I saw and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction."

Postcard From The End Of America: Bella Vista Of Philadelphia
By Linh Dinh

http://www.countercurrents.org/dinh210715.htm

I'm here today not to see Don but Stephanie Potter. The artistic impulse is more pervasive than one might think. In this unassuming neighborhood bar, there's Felix the painter and sculptor, Jimmy the cook at Anastasi Seafood who also paints regularly, almost compulsively, and Tim, the lead singer for Hired Guns Blues Band. Even more than jazz, blues has collapsed into a mannerism. Stephanie, though, is a real sculptor and a real poet. She's certainly bold and loony enough, but in a controlled way

Hacking Team And Colombia: How Surveillance Helps A Violent State
By Justin Podur

http://www.countercurrents.org/podur210715.htm

The Colombian state didn't need HT's software to murder peasants and dress them up as guerrillas. But to anticipate and prepare for human rights criticism? To stay one step ahead of the FARC at the negotiating table? To target and surveil the country's many remarkable unarmed movement activists - and put targets on them for murderous paramilitaries? For any of these - all proven tactics of the Colombian regime - HT's systems sure would come in handy

Stop Yakub Memon's Hanging
By People's Union For Demoratic Rights

http://www.countercurrents.org/pudr210715.htm

On 15th July, the Maharashtra government announced that it has initiated the process for hanging Yakub Memon. On 30th July, 2015 'he is to be hung by the neck till dead'. The announcement seemed inevitable after the Supreme Court had rejected his review petition on 10th April this year. Except that Yakub Memon has still not exhausted all legal remedies as he has a curative petition due to be heard in the Supreme Court on 21st July. While the state government is treating the matter as already dried and dusted and making a mockery of the justice system, there are some very valid reasons for drawing attention to Yakub's case for upholding our faith in the judicial process
