UNITE TO SAVE INDIA
We appeal to all Indians to bury all divisive agendas and unite to build a strong India.
On the eve of the Mass Public meeting, tthat will be attended by 10,000 Punekars, the constituents of the BBA were deluged by complaints by the families of numerous Muslim Youth.
We thus appeal to the authorities to stop the persecution of innocent Indians and end the reign of terror. In the aftermath of the 13/2 Pune German Bakery terror attacks, the Police and othe security agencies like the ATS has been harrassing & targetting one particular community. Muslim youth have been targetted indiscriminately & on a random basis. Frightful accounts of Muslim youth being telephoned, threatened & being called for interrogation, blind folded, made to change vehicles & taken to secret locations were brought to our notice.
Thus the leadership & the constituents of the Bharat Bachao Andolan, decided to meet the Police Commissioner of Pune, Shri Satyapal Singh.
The delegation was led by Brigadier Sudhir Sawant (President, Shivrajya Paksh) & he was very categorical in his assertion of the problem. He stated that we as a nation are committed to the values of communal harmony & we needed to unite to fight terror. Brigadier Sawant narrated the horrific tales of some of the Muslim youth who had approached him with the complaints. He stated that "THEY WERE CALLED IN STRANGE PLACES TO MEET THE POLICE OR PICKED UP IN THE NIGHT WITHOUT NOTICE OR RECORD. HE STATED THAT THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE CALLED FOR INVESTIGATION ONLY IN POLICE STATIONS, THE MATTER RECORDED, THEIR RELATIVES INTIMATED AND NOT IN OTHER UNKNOWN DESTINATIONS."
On this count, even the Police Commissioner said that he was unaware of some of the cases where Muslim youth were being called for interrogation. Brigadier Sawant stated that the Muslim community was being targetted & that was uncalled for. He stated that the Muslim youth should be called for interrogation to the police station & official records of the same should be maintained to prevent the climate of fear which was spreading all across the city of Pune. He also informed the Commissioner that on reports of such youth being detained, a committee of the Bharat Bachao Andolan would come & discuss the matters with him. HE STATED THAT "WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY INNOCENT PERSON TO BE HARRASSED BUT ALSO VOLUNTEERED TO HELP THE POLICE IN ANY WAY TO MAINTAIN PEACE."
Shri Feroze Mithiborwala (National President, Bharat Bachao Andolan), also categorically told the Police Commissioner that even though the name of the Abhinav Bharat terror organization is under discussion in context of the Pune terror attack, no such detention or interrogation is being conducted as is the case with the Muslim community & this reveals the bias in the way the investigations are being conducted. This, despite the fact that in the post-Karkare phase, the investigative agencies should have known better.
The Police Commissioner agreed to Brigadier Sawants' request AND ASSURED THAT INESTIGATIONS WILL BE DONE WITHOUT ANY BIAS TO ANY COMMUNITY.
Other members of the delegation included Kishore Jagtap (National Convenor, Bharat Bachao Andolan), Shantaram Kunjir (Pune Zilla Working President, Sambhaji Brigade), Jotiba Nerawade (Pune President, Shivrajya Paksh), Liaqat Khan (President, Social Democratic Party of India), Munawwar Quresihi (President, Indian Muslim Front), Anjum Qureishi (President, Rashtra Premi Samiti),
Thus the BBA has decided to constitute a committee to be headed by Brigadier Sudhir Sawant, that will look into the cases that our brought to our notice & we also appeal to the people to be vigilant in this regard.
