Workshop on Improving Fish Utilisation and Trade from 19th July
New Delhi: July 16, 2010.
Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and INFOFISH, an intergovernmental Organisation based in Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is organising a Workshop on "National Strategies for Improving Fish Utilisation and Trade". The 5-day (19-23 July) event will be inaugurated by Shri Rahul Khullar, Commerce Secretary here on Monday, 19th July, 2010.
The member countries viz., Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal and four experts from FAO are expected to attend this event and make presentation on improving fish utilisation and trade.
During the Workshop, various issues like traceability, aquaculture certification impacting trade, private standards, antibiotic & veterinary drug residues in aquaculture products, methodology for post-harvest fish losses, organic issues and current international trade issues in marine products are likely to be discussed.

Commodity-Wise Freight Revenue by Railways Goes up by 8.33 Per Cent During April-June 2010
New Delhi: July 16, 2010.
The Railways have generated Rs. 14915.16 crore of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April-June 2010 as compared to Rs. 13768.56 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.33 per cent. Railways carried 218.35 million tonnes of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-June 2010 as compared to 213.24 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 2.40 per cent. The Net Tonne Kilo Metres (NTKM) went up from 138779 million during April-June 2009 to 145342 million during April-June 2010, showing an increase of 4.73 per cent.
Out of the total earnings of Rs. 4870.62 crore from commodity-wise freight traffic during the month of June 2010, Rs. 1925.61 crore came from transportation of 32.94 million tonnes of coal, followed by Rs. 707.67 crore from 9.45 million tonnes of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user, Rs. 476.25 crore from 8.06 million tonnes of cement, Rs. 241.70 crore from 2.48 million tonnes of foodgrains, Rs. 303.02 crore from 3.49 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs. 265.81 crore from 2.41 million tonnes of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs. 286.57 crore from 3.84 million tonnes of fertilizers, Rs. 75.52 crore from 0.87 million tonnes of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs. 225.54 crore from 2.61 million tonnes by container service and Rs. 362.93 crore from 5.79 million tonnes of other goods.

Pallam Raju Leads Indian Delegation to Farnborough Airshow
New Delhi: July 16, 2010.
The Minister of State for Defence Dr MM Pallam Raju leads a 3-member high-level delegation to represent India at the acclaimed Farnborough Airshow in the UK. Dr Pallam Raju left New Delhi today along with Secretary, Defence Production, Shri Raj Kumar Singh and Air Marshal S Mukerji, Commander-in-Chief, Southern Air Command as part of the official delegation to the Airshow beginning next week.
The Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is among the 1,393 exhibitors from 40 countries participating in the biennial event. The show will focus on a 'Space Zone' and UAVs this year. Over 1,50,000 visitors are expected to witness the week-long show starting Monday. The much awaited Aerospace Calendar event generated worth over $88.7 billion during the last Airshow in 2008.

Dr.C.P.Joshi calls for timely implementation of flagship programs in rural areas New Delhi, Asadha 24, 1932 July 15, 2010 Union Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj ,Dr. C.P. Joshi has called upon the Government agencies implementing the flagship programs in rural areas to ensure that the benefits reach out to the needy and poor in time. He of the rural development reach timely. He Dr. Joshi was addressing the inaugural session of a two day long Performance Review Committee meeting to take stock of the progress under the flagship programs of the Ministry Of Rural Development at National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) here today. Dr. Joshi asked the State administrators looking after the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA works to give an ear to the grievances of rural masses for speedy and effective implementation of the Act.
During the course of deliberations the participants were informed of the progress under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS. In the financial year 2009-10, Mahatma Gandhi NREGS led the way in the financial year 2009-10 with 5.25 crore households being provided employment in the rural areas across the country. It has generated 282.58 lakh person days of employment in the year 2009-10.The average no. of days of employment in the year per household in the year has gone up to 54 days. Average Wage paid per Persondays has gone up to Rs. 91 in 2009-10 from Rs. 84 in 2008-09. Over 69.5 lakh households have availed of 100 days of employment in 2009-10 under the Mahtama Gandhi NREGA The participation of Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes has been around 31% and 21% respectively while the women's contribution has been around 49% .The Ministry Of Rural Development spent Rs. 37938.16 Crores on the scheme which amounts to 68 % of the expenditure as against the total available funds. Mahatma Gandhi NREGA provides for a legal guarantee of 100 days of work to job seeking adults from rural households doing unskilled manual labour.
Under Indira Awas Yojana ,33.84 lakh houses have been constructed/ upgraded in 2009-10 as against the target of 40.52 lakh achieving around 83%. Expenditure in this period has been around Rs.13288.99 crore which amounts to 84 % of the expenditure as against the total available funds.During the financial year 2010-11, Rs. 9716.20 crore have been allocated under Indira Awaas Yojana for construction of 28.09 lakh houses. Under Indira Awas Yojana, a BPL family is given grant of Rs. 45000/- for new construction in plain areas and Rs.48,500/- for construction in hilly/difficult areas, which has since been enhanced from 1/4/2010.
The meeting convened on quarterly basis will review the performance under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) on Friday, the 16th July. Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY),the preparations for BPL Census, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and National Social Assistance Program would be taken up for review on Saturday, the 17th July. The new strategies and modalities for furthering the speedy as well effective implementation of the flagship programs will also be discussed during the deliberations.
This is the first meeting of the Performance Review Committee of the Ministry for the financial year 2010-11. The Performance Review Committee Meetings over the years have been an important monitoring tool for the Ministry of Rural Development to take stock of the progress of the various flagship programs running all over the country. The participants include among others the Secretaries and representatives from all Sate Governments / UT Administrations overseeing the implementation of Rural Development Programs, Organizations like CAPART , NIRD along with the Ministry Of Panchayati Raj, Ministry Of Statistics and Program Implementation, Ministry of Finance, Planning Commission representatives.

Dr.C.P. Joshi Launches AWAASSOFT- A Web Enabled Software For Indira Awaas Yojana
New Delhi: July 16, 2010.
Union Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Dr. C.P. Joshi today clicked the mouse to launch a web enabled software for Indira Awaas Yojana named as AWAASSoft at the inaugural session of a two day long Performance Review Committee meeting to take stock of the progress under the flagship programs of the Ministry Of Rural Development at National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC) here today. He congratulated the ministry personnel in expediting the digitization of the work which was earlier being done on manual basis. Dr. Joshi expressed the hope that from now onwards the stake holders will be able to take stock of the progress of rural housing schemes in their areas from their own locations.
AWAASSoft- An e-Governance Solution for Indira Awaas Yojana is a local language enabled workflow based transactional level management information system to facilitate e-governance in the system. The system has been prepared and deployedat http://iay.nic.in by NIC in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development. The system is designed for all the Stakeholders of IAY incliding the beneficiaries of the scheme. The portal http://iay.nic.in is accessible to all including the National/International Community. AWAASSoft starts with the setting of targets by the Ministry of Rural Development for a financial year. The system facilitates selection of beneficiaries by providing loose coupling with the Rural Household Survey BPL Census 2002.
