AIRPORTS AUTHORITY OF INDIA: ADVISORY
Kolkata, August 27, 2010.
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, has advised to issue following Advisory Note to the passengers travelling to Nepal regarding prohibition of use of Rs.500/- and 1000/- Indian Rupee notes in Nepal by the Government of Nepal.
"Indian currency in the denomination of Rs.500/- and Rs.1000/- are banned in Nepal. These notes are liable to be seized and the persons carrying them liable to be fined or imprisoned for upto three years. You are advised to exchange the high denomination notes with currency notes in smaller denomination of Rs.100/- or below."
