The British Queen is in 'cold fury' over allegations of financial irregularities involving a British firm and the Commonwealth Games baton relay, a media report said Sunday.

The Prime Minister will take "appropriate action" on the issue of alleged financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games projects, Union Minister Salman Khurshid said today. "Our first priority is the smooth conduct of the Commonwealth Games.

Let the games be finished, we are hopeful that the Prime Minister will take an appropriate action (on alleged financial irregularities)," Khurshid told reporters here on the sidelines of convocation of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA). On Kashmir, the Corporate and Minorities Affairs Minister said the Prime Minister and Home Minister P Chidambaram are constantly monitoring the situation and are working hard to bring normalcy there.

"There is an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. We must strengthen the hands of the government in the state where a young and dynamic Chief Minister is handling the situation," he said.

"The Prime Minister is concerned, we all are concerned and trying to find out a solution," the minister said.

Daily Express Sunday reported that the baton, which has a message from the Queen, has been tainted by claims it has been used by a British firm to cash in on the Royal brand. The baton is carried by runners around the world, before it arrives at the host city New Delhi.

The CWG organising committee is alleged to have paid AM Films, an Indian-owned firm in London, over 450,000 pounds for services during the Queen's Baton Relay inaugural without proper tendering and paper work.

The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) has formed a three-member panel to probe the allegations that a letter from the Indian High Commission in London, which CGOC claimed recommended AM Films for the Queen's Baton Relay inaugural in October last year, was tampered with.

The media report said that the Queen is understood to be in a 'cold fury' over the affair, which she sees as besmirching the symbolic baton.

A diplomatic source in India was quoted as saying: 'The Queen's goodwill in launching the baton in London has led to her being caught up in this matter although she is an innocent party.'

The Commonwealth Games are going to be held in New Delhi from Oct 3 to 14.

Women empowerment, though it is in its infancy, is worrying some males to extreme. They are so scared that they are not able to judge before opposing the rights of women to be considered as human. Those males do not like to see the female autonomy. To prove their point, they quote from the scriptures of India in which Indra goes unpunished after raping Ahilya. This lesson from scriptures shows that woman should worship husband like a God no matter how immoral he is. Tulsi Das makes his hero Ram discard Sita to teach women to follow male dictates without a voice of revolt.

In modern times women are trying to come out of their shells, making a concrete space for themselves by articulating their own desires and dreams. These wishes and dreams were lying buried in the cave of women's heart for ages. Males of this conformist society do not like women to disregard their domestic duty to make their career. Women when require cooperation of males in carrying out these household responsibilities, try to take another root to avoid it. Males can not sacrifice their careers for family and women do not have right to make career at the expense of family

This difference in choice now does not work at the scale it worked before. But fanatics are still living in the age of Manusmriti and Panchtantra. They still try to apply rules and lessons of scriptures for feminine gender. So does Vibhuti Narain Rai in his interview that shows his ethical death when he makes degraded comments about women writers. His comments humiliate every female writer. He hurts every sensitive ear and revered name in the field of writing from Sarojini Naidu to Imtiaz Dharker.

Vibhuti Narain Rai can be accused for defaming every writer who has made unparallel journey on the road to equality. The words of his mouth are shocking. Mr. Vibhuti Narain Rai, the vice chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, says that women writers of today are competing to prove themselves to become the leading prostitute. He again adds that if they want to write their autobiography then HOW MANY TIMES IN HOW MANY BEDS will be the appropriate title. It is the report in news.in.msn.com. At another place in the interview, he dubs the character of a famous story as "nymphomaniac kutiya". When asked by The Sunday Express which women writers he was referring to, Rai laughed. And repeated what he had said: "It's not fair to mention names, but you can see, this tendency to prove themselves the 'sabse badi chhinal' is growing among women writers. You can find the references of 'kitne bistaron men kitani baar' in their work."

As reported by Ashutosh Bhardwaj in Indian Express on 1st August Vibhuti Narain Rai told Naya Gyanodaya that the entire feminist discourse has reduced to a grand celebration of infidelity.

Such irresponsible comments will not be able to break the morals of women writers. We do not need character certificates of the males like Vibhuti Narayana Rai who does not have any respect for feminine gender. He is unfit to work as a VC. Government should take necessary steps to avoid any further incidents like this, excommunicating such characters.

A Brief Report of the proceedings of the Sit-In on the evening of 7 August 2010 against the crimes of Indian State on the people of Kashmir

The evening of 7 August 2010 witnessed after a long long time voices of freedom from the people of Kashmir. Despite the heavy repression and the draconian laws to maim and incarcerate the people of Kashmir, to subjugate their indomitable spirit for Azadi, the evening of August 7 at the heart of Delhi just half a kilometre away from the parliament witnessed unprecedented scenes of assertion of the political will not to say genuine desire of the Kashmiri people for freedom from the exploitative and oppressive rule of the Indian State. Around six to seven hundred people had gathered including people from various peoples organisations in Delhi to protest against the increasing repression of the Kashmiri people.

SAR Geelani, Faculty of Delhi University conducted the proceedings of the evening. Every Kashmiri—students, teachers, journalists, working people—who spoke in the meeting was unequivocal about their demand for Azadi which set the tone of the proceedings as the dharna cite reverberated with slogans against India's occupation of Jammu & Kashmir and the demand for Azadi. Various people's organisations from Delhi which participated in the meeting expressed their unconditional solidarity to the struggle for freedom of the Kashmiri people. Revolutionary poet Vara Vara Rao who was also an emissary of the present CPI (Maoist) party in their early talks with the government of Andhra Pradesh asserted that the people of Kashmir are not alone in their struggle against Indian occupation. He pointed out that the fighting masses of Dankaranya, Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand are with the struggle for freedom of the people of Kashmir. He said that the enemy of the both the oppressed people of Kashmir and the poorest and the wretched in India is the Indian ruling class which is a prop of US and other imperialist forces and the struggling people of Kashmir and India should join hands for the realisation of the freedom of both. Noted film maker Sanjay Kak pointed out that the Kashmiris should stop looking at themselves as victims. While it was important for the Kashmiri people to be emotional in their struggles braving the repressive machine of the Indian State it was also necessary to have a political temperament to see the light at the end of the arduous struggle. Mrigank from the Nav Jawan Bharat Sabha expressed his solidarity for the movement of the people of Kashmir. Narender from the Popular Front expressed his organisation's support for what he termed as the "complete independence" of the people of Kashmir. Kavita Krishnan from the CPI (ML) (Liberation) talked about the scores of atrocities committed by the Indian army on the people of Kashmir as well as the need for a meaningful dialogue for which the Indian government should be made accountable. GN Saibaba of the Revolutionary Democratic Front pointed out that the rising struggle for freedom of the Kashmiri people will usher in the death knell of US imperialism. He also stressed that the liberation of the people of Kashmir is in the interest of the people of India who are also fighting for revolutionary transformation. Sharmila Purkayastha from the PUDR, former Ambassador Madhu Bhaduri, Karen Gabriel from Delhi University, Banojyotsna Lahiri from DSU JNU, Om from AISA JNU, Tara Basumatary from DU also spoke expressing their solidarity for the struggle of the Kashmiri people for Azadi. Members of the progressive cultural organisation Prathidhwani sang songs while some of the Kashmiri participants read out the poems of well known Kashmiri poet Agha Shahid Ali. Later in the night at 10 the meeting ended at a high note amidst thundering slogans for Azadi, Demands to resolve the Kashmir issue, condemning the fake Indian Democracy, to stop the Genocide in Kashmir, when one of the young Kashmiri thundered: "the Indian government terms our struggle anti-national. They brand us anti-national. I want to ask: How can you call us anti-national. We are not part of your nation. We were never. We are Kashmiri nationalists fighting for our freedom. We want Azadi!"

Press Release: for the Night Long Sit-In  Protest against India's Crimes against Humanity

Far away from their home in Kashmir, where life has been put under curfew and dead bodies of boys and girls arrive in every neighborhood, Kashmiris living in Delhi have come together to protest against the repression and killings by armed forces. Hundreds of people from Delhi also protested in solidarity with Kashmiris asking for a political solution to Kashmir rather than a military one.

On June 11, a 17 year old school boy Tufail Matoo, was killed after tear smoke canister fired by the armed forces hit him on his head. This was few weeks after the fake encounter of three Kashmiri men by the Army in Rafiabad in north Kashmir and Kashmiris were already angry. Kashmiris came out in thousands to protest the death in which more people were killed. The police and CRPF then fired on the mourners killing more boys. Two girls, Fancy and Afroza, aged 23 and 17, lost their lives to the bullets. A 7 year old boy was beaten to death in Batamaloo. Most of the dead were teenagers and children. They threw stones at the CRPF bunkers, which they consider symbols of occupation, and the armed forces kept firing live ammunition at the crowds killing 55 civilans.

In the last 7 days, 600 people have been seriously injured and wounded. According to doctors in the SMHS hospital, out of the 37 people who had been shot at were in one ward, 35 had been shot at point blank range and above their chests. Thousands have been maimed, blinded and paralysed in the last one month.

No place in Kashmir, be it homes, hospitals or ambulances have been spared in Kashmir and even the media was gagged and were often beaten up. In the unarmed protests in Kashmir since 2008, not a single soldier or policeman has been killed but more than 160 people have been killed.

As usual, Indian state this time as well only answered militarily by sending 1900 more troops in addition to the 7,00,000 soldiers that are already there. By conservative estimates, 70,000 people have been killed in Kashmir since 1990 but it has not been able to change the 'sentiment for Azadi' on ground. Killing people cannot achieve anything, it is the 'aspiration of Azadi of Kashmiri's that India needs to engage with and work towards a political solution. 'They make desolation and call it peace'. Peace cannot and will not come through gun barrel nor will India win by buying time. For the last several decades we have seen that Indian state has faced one generation of Kashmiris after another, and cosmetic measures and economic packages will not help change the situation in Kashmir.

On Saturday, at the Jantar Mantar at the 5.30 Pm, people came together for a night long Sit- In to protest against Indian State's Crimes against Humanity in Kashmir and its insensitivity to the loss of innocent lives.

The night long protest is an attempt to tell Kashmiris back home, who are out on streets all night, that though we are not under Curfew and repression as they are, we feel the gun barrels against us and the tear smoke gas around us.

We, as Kashmiris, want India to acknowledge J&K as a dispute between Kashmiris and the neighbouring countries and not as a law and order problem.

We also put the following demands in front of Govt. of India:

* Demilitarize our land, our schools, our hospitals, our streets, our orchards, our cities, our towns and our          villages.

* Repeal the draconian laws like AFSPA, J&K-PSA, Disturbed Areas Act, etc.

* Release all political prisoners who have been arrested in last 21 years.

* Allow international agencies to investigate into the mass graves in Kashmir and the crimes against    humanity committed by Indian forces in Kashmir.

* Learn to respect dissent and respect democratic right of people to disagree.

* Initiate dialogue on Kashmir, in Kashmir, with Kashmiris.

Do you know?

    * According to the Indian government, they have deployed 150,000 troops in India's central and eastern states. Independent witnesses say the numbers are closer to 250,000. This is more than the number of US troops in Afghanistan. This is war on the Indian people.
    * Recent statistics show 37% of the country's people suffer from chronic malnutrition and 50% are undernourished.
    * A nearly third of India is under army occupation with no democratic freedoms? All over India arrests, detentions, disappearances have increased to alarming levels since the people began resisting the corporate take over of India?
    * On July 1, the Indian Maoist revolutionary Azad, a Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and the spokesperson of its Central Committee along with a Delhi-based journalist Hem Chandra Pandey were killed by the Andhra state police.
    * During the last few days at least 29 innocent Kashmiris have been killed.

·  India has sent one of its ex-ambassador to Nepal to influence the election of the Prime Minister there.

We support
The following demand of the CONCERNED CITIZENS & FORUM AGAINST WAR ON PEOPLE,  DELHI, INDIA:

"While condemning in the strongest possible words the killings of Azad and Hem Chandra Pandey, we demand that the government constitute an immediate judicial enquiry to probe into the incident. We also demand an immediate stop to all extra-judicial execution of revolutionaries as well as activists and leaders of people's movements. The government must respect the constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights of the people to life and dignity. The gagging of the media and stifling of media freedom must be stopped by the government. We demand an end to the Indian government's war on people in the name of Operation Green Hunt, and the immediate withdrawal of its armed forces from the areas of conflict. The government must scrap all the MoUs signed with the multinational and Indian corporations for the exploitation of mineral resources at the expense of people's lives and livelihood. The Indian government must also politically address the demands of the struggling people of Kashmir and the North East through dialogue, and must stop the brutal repression of their voices through state repression. "

Centre must spell out its stand on Trinamool-Maoists tie up: Karat

PTI CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday demanded the Centre should spell out its views on "joint collaboration" between the Trinamool Congress and the outlawed Maoists in West Bengal.
"We would like to know whether the Centre finds the Trinamool Congress-Maoists collaboration compatible with its fight against the outlaws. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram says there is no proof of collaboration between the Trinamool Congress and Maoists, but the proposed rally in Lalgarh tomorrow exposes their tie up," CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said here on Sunday.
Briefing mediapersons about the ongoing discussions at the Extended Central Committee meeting of the CPI(M) here, Mr. Karat said Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and also some Union Ministers of State were scheduled to take part in the Lalgarh rally which has the "support and full backing" of the Maoists. Though the Trinamool Congress claimed it was a non-political rally, its collaboration with the Maoists has been clearly exposed, he alleged.
"We would like to know from the Centre how it views this joint collaboration as one Union Cabinet Minister and some Ministers of State are going to take part in the Lalgarh rally. Now, the question is what is the Government of India's stand on this," Mr. Karat said.
Referring to West Bengal, the CPI(M) general secretary said their target was the Trinamool Congress. "Trinamool is the main target for us. Congress is only a junior partner in the alliance and not the main force that is attacking us," Mr. Karat said.

He needs to be identified and horsewhipped in public for putting India in such a disgraceful situation.
