Genocide of Kashmiris on to suppress movement: Geelani

Appeals United Nations to ensure security of Kashmiris

ARIF SHAFI WANI

Srinagar, Sept 14: The Chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday said the killings of 17 civilians during the protests against alleged desecration of Quran across the Valley on Monday are part of a larger conspiracy unleashed by New Delhi to carry out genocide of Kashmiris for suppressing their ongoing movement for right to self-determination.
"With moist eyes and from the core of my heart I am immensely pained over the brutal killings of 17 Kashmiris yesterday. These killings can't be taken in isolation as they are part of a larger conspiracy to carry out genocide of Kashmiris mainly to suppress the ongoing movement," Geelani told Greater Kashmir.
The veteran leader who is spreaheading the ongoing 'Quit Jammu and Kashmir Movement' said New Delhi was fighting a lost battle in Kashmir. "India wants only the land of Kashmir and cares a hoot about the rights of Kashmiris. It has been using all its military might to crush the movement but has only achieved failure. It is frustrated by the overwhelming support to the Quit Jammu Kashmir Movement and is using pressure tactics to break the resolve of Kashmiris," he said.
Geelani said the ongoing movement has reached a decisive phase and urged people to lend support to the conglomerate's protest calendar. "It is a do or die situation for Kashmiris. Come what may, Kashmiris won't surrender before India and fight till they achieve the right to self-determination. Kashmiris who has been rendering unflinching sacrifices for the just cause, are committed to take the movement to its logical conclusion," he maintained.
Geelani castigated the Jammu and Kashmir Police for blaming his party for instigating violence and accused them of being at forefront on what he said unleashing "terror" on Kashmiris. "The statement of DGP Kuldeep Khoda that we are stoking violent protests is a sheer bundle of lies. We want to maintain that our conglomerate does not believe or support violence. We have been even asking people to desist from chanting provocative slogans during protests. This we are not doing due to fear or to appease anybody, but it is the standing policy of the Hurriyat to support peaceful protests," Geelani said.
Elaborating Geelani said by these tactics, Police can't deter the Conglomerate from carrying on the ongoing movement. "We are not even afraid of brutal forces, not to talk of the JK Police which has been at the forefront of unleashing atrocities on unarmed Kashmiris. During the protests at Humhama yesterday we had asked our men to participate in the protests only if they are peaceful. Despite being a peaceful protest, the troopers and cops killed four innocent Kashmiris there," he said.
"Our fight is against India and not against Kashmir Police. I advise the DGP not to interfere in the fight and damage the position of JK Police and intensify alienation against them," he said.
Geelani appealed the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to ensure protection of Kashmiris who are peacefully protesting for their rights. "The UN should take strong note of naked display of state terrorism unleashed by India on unarmed Kashmiris. I appeal Ban Ki Moon to immediately take steps to ensure security of Kashmiris," he said.
The veteran leader appealed the youth to stage peaceful protests. "Indian agencies are trying to maligning the movement by fomenting violence during the peaceful protests. I urge the youth to keep the protests peaceful at any cost to foil the evil designs of India to malign our movement," he maintained.
