JKLF FLAYS BJP

'Won't tolerate intimidation'

Srinagar, Jan 6:  Reacting sharply to the BJP leaders' recent statements that they would hoist flag at Lal Chowk here on January 26, to 'defeat' the Kashmiris' mindset, the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Tuesday termed it as party's intellectual bankruptcy.

"Kashmiris are not going to be overawed by anybody's intimidations. They are a brave nation that has till date offered sacrifices of lakhs of their brothers and sons for freedom. They will continue their struggle and defeat the designs of their enemies at all costs," a JKLF spokesman quoted the Front leaders as having said.

He said JKLF leaders, including district presidents and executive members, met here to discuss the recent statements of top BJP leaders including Arun Jaitley.

"The meeting was convened to discuss implementation of the programme given by the JKLF chairman against the BJP leaders' 'intimidation' to hoist tricolour at Lal Chowk here on January 26," he said.

Condemning, what he called, the politics of double-standards pursued by the BJP leaders, the JKLF vice-chairman   Bashir Ahmed Bhat said during its rule, this party started peace process with Pakistan and Kashmiris and its top leadership openly stressed the need for resolution of the Kashmir issue. "Now the same party is showing anti-Kashmiris attitude to realize its petty political interests," he said, adding that by hoisting flag at Lal Chowk here in 1992 with the help of armed forces, the BJP could not succeed in breaking the Kashmiris' resolve and determination for their freedom."

Meanwhile, the JKLF spokesman paid glowing tributes to the scores of people who were martyred by the armed forces on January 6, 1993, in Sopore town of north Kashmir. "Fifty seven innocent civilians were martyred and hundreds other injured in the firing and arson by the armed forces at Sopore. Hundreds of residential houses and shops were reduced to rubble in arson and dozens of people charred alive," he added
