Nepal: Baidhya sees no alternative to immediate revolution

From Republica:

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: In yet another indication of widening factional division within the ruling UCPN (Maoist), both Dahal and Baidya camps continued to trade allegations publicly, accusing each other of acting against the spirit of revolution.

Speaking at a function organized by Kirat Academy, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal lambasted Baidya camp for following outdated tactics of Chinese revolution and assured the gathering that the ultimate goal of the Maoist revolution in Nepal would be achieved through a special model based on social and economic context of Nepal.

However, Maoist General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, speaking at a function to mark the 119th birth anniversary of Mao Zedong, came down heavily on the chairman and blamed him of betraying the revolution.

Thapa, who is a major leader of the Baidya camp, claimed that the present government led by Baburam Bhattarai is not in a position to complete the twin tasks of concluding the peace process and writing constitution and stressed on the need for forming a new government comprising leftists, patriots and republican forces.

"Only a government led by patriots, leftists and republicans can complete the task of writing people's constitution and take the peace process to a logical conclusion," said Thapa, who has been proposed as the next prime minister to replace Bhattarai. Referring to a call from the Dahal camp for party unity, he said that the Baidya camp would not surrender in the name of unity and accept slavery in the name of discipline.

Meanwhile, speaking at a separate function in Butwal Monday, party Secretary CP Gajurel said that the Baidya faction has proposed General Secretary Thapa as the next prime minister to defend Maoist ideology.
