Senator Schumer Addresses Iranian Americans at Carnegie Hall
November 19, 2009 - Senator Charles Schumer made a surprise appearance at the sold-out "Iranian Sounds of Peace" concert featuring Hafez and Shahram Nazeri at New York's famed Carnegie Hall on November 14th. In a short speech given during intermission, Senator Schumer took the opportunity to thank Iranian Americans for their contributions to American society. "America and New York are so much the better for it".

Hafez and Shahram Nazeri Make History with Performance at Carnegie Hall
November 19, 2009 - On Saturday November 14th, Iran's most influential young composer, Hafez Nazeri, and his internationally acclaimed father, Shahram Nazeri, made history by becoming the first Iranians to headline an event at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City. The concert entitled "Iranian Sounds of Peace – An East/West Musical Dialogue" attracted a sold-out crowd of about 3000 people and was the conclusion of the Iranian Enlightenment Week in New York City, sponsored by PAAIA, the Asia Society, New York University cultural society and other groups. Special guests included New York Senator Schumer, who addressed the audience during intermission.

Falahat Aims to Make History
Iranian American Runs for District Attorney in Contra Costa County California
November 19, 2009 – Iranian American Elle Falahat has a goal, and an impressive one at that: to become the first ever-female district attorney for Contra Costa County. Furthermore, if elected, Falahat would be the first Iranian American ever to serve as District Attorney in the United States. According to her, "I'm running for this position because the time has come. I'm the only candidate in this race committed to changing the culture of the office to bring it into the 21st century." The non-partisan election will be held in June of 2010.

Dismantling the Axis of Evil
Eliminating Negative Stereotypes of Middle Easterners in the Media
On November 10th, the Iranian American Bar Association (IABA) and Levantine Cultural Center (LCC), with co-sponsorship by PAAIA/NexGen, held a forum in Los Angeles entitled "Dismantling the Axis of Evil: Reforming Middle Eastern Representations in Hollywood & Seeking Sounder Public Policy after 9/11 in the Age of Obama". A group of distinguished panelists discussed ways in which we can eliminate negative stereotypes of Middle Easterners in the media that undermine the social and political voice of these communities in America.
