Life of Dalits (untouchables) Community in India

Life of Dalits (untouchables) Community in India

Dalits in Madhyapadesh india.

India is claiming to be world's largest democracy since independence, But India failed miserably to protect the rights and social status of the minorities living in India.

Dalits are the lower caste Hindus commonly known as "Schedulecaste" or 'untouchables'.
Dalits are facing discrimination and racism in India due to their low caste.India is home to over one thousand million population in which Around 200 million are dalits.Dalits are considered one of the world's most depressed community.Dalits are facing injustice and discrimination in society schools and jobs etc, The following are some of the main problems the dalits are facing in india.

No Religious freedom:

india is A hindus dominated state, Around 80% indian population are hindus. Dalits are also hindus but they (dalits) are not allowed to worship in temples because the upper caste hindus often worship there. The upper caste people think the dalits are dirty and backword caste so they should not be Allowed to worship in temples (the holly place).Dalits are not Allowed to enter any temple in india without permission.

Discrimination in School/collages:

Although the Govt of India are doing their best to protect the dalits and all other untouchable groups rights in schools and collages, GOI of india reserved Quota for untouchables. The upper caste teachers and students always show racism towards Dalit students. The students often beat untouchables students due to their backword caste, in short their is no Freedom of speech for dalit students in school and collages, they can't oppose the decision made by any upper caste student/teachers.
They have to follow what the upper caste students direct them.

Forced Conversion:

Due to racism, discrimination and untouchable status the Dalits population are continuously converting to Christianity and Islam in India but due to Existence of Saffron extremist Hindus groups like RSS and shiv Sena the Untouchables faces many problem. In many cases thousand of Dalits are Forcefully reconverted to Hinduism.

Social injustice:

Dalits are facing social injustice since long in India. Around 68 dalits killed by upper caste people this year. In A recent case a Dalit youth killed for his Alleged affair with upper caste girl.
In Another case two dalit girls were raped and then killed. No one has been arrested or detained in the charges of Killing dalits till now.Three thousand dalits killed in india since 2001 Athough the police claimed the Arrest of several killers but No one has been sentenced so far.

No development in Dalit Areas:

Dalits are living in many states of india Especially in central india.According to A recent report Dalits inhibited areas in India are less developed as compare to other parts of india. There are no proper schools colleges and hospitals in dalits dominated areas .The railway network is very poor while some of the areas don't have internet and mobile phone service. The people have to walk for miles in search of clean drinking water and Food. There are No universities in Dalits inhibited areas, The dalits students have to travel for other states to get higher Education.UN and Some NGO's are funding to Govt of india for the development of dalits but due corruption and unaccountability the funds are wasted.
