LT GEN BIKRAM SINGH TAKES OVER AS GOC-IN-C
OF THE EASTERN COMMAND
Kolkata, April 1, 2010
Lt Gen Bikram Singh, has taken over the charge of the General Officer
Commanding –In-Chief of the Eastern Command in Kolkata today. An
alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he was commissioned into the
Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in 1972. He is a Post Graduate from the
Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Lt Gen Bikram Singh has
done Higher Command Course at Mhow and US Army War College,
Pennsylvania USA.
With over 38 years of active service, he has held a number of
important Command and Staff appointments. He commanded an Infantry
Battalion in the North East and along the Line of Control in J&K. He
was the Corps Commander of the prestigious 15 Corps in his last
command tenure. He has served in three UN Peace Keeping Missions. He
has been awarded the Ati Vishisth Seva Medal(AVSM), Sena Medal and
Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his meritorious service so far.
Before taking over as GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, he was the Director
of General of Staff Duties at IHQ of Min of Defence (Army).
