Sports Minister Sanctions Financial Assistance to Ms Saly George,
Former Volleyball Player & Arjuna Awardee
New Delhi: April 9, 2010
Dr. M.S.Gill , Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports has
sanctioned ex-gratia assistance of Rs. 2.50 Lakh from National Welfare
Fund for Sportspersons, to Ms. Saly George ( Joseph), a former
volleyball player and Arjuna Awardee( 1984) , who is living in
indigent conditions .
Ms. George had played volleyball at national and international level
from 1980 to 1986 . Taking into consideration her financial position,
the Sports Minister has sanction ex-gratia payment to Ms. George.
Under the Scheme of National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons , the
Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports provides lump sum financial
assistance to outstanding sportspersons of the past, who are facing
financial distress.

Prices of Sugar Continue to Slide Down and Wheat Prices Remain Steady
in Most Parts of the Country
New Delhi: April 9, 2010
In the week ending 7.4.2010, prices of sugar and wheat have declined
at some places and remained steady at most of the centres where prices
are monitored by the Department of Consumer Affairs. According to data
collected by the Department of Consumer Affairs, sugar prices have
declined at Delhi, Shimla, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kolkata, and
Thiruvananthapuram and remained steady at all other reporting centres
barring Bhubaneswar.
Prices of wheat have decreased at Delhi, Lucknow and Bangalore and
remained steady at all other reporting centres except for an increase
at Bhopal.
Prices of pulses have remained steady at most of the reporting centres
except for an increase at some places.
Potato prices have declined at Raipur and Bangalore and remained
steady at most of the reporting centres.
Onion prices have decreased at Shimla, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bangalore and
Thiruvananthapuram and remained steady at most of other places.
Prices of edible oils have declined at some places and remained steady
at most of the reporting centres.
At Delhi, retail prices of rice, wheat, atta, sugar, vanaspati, onion
and salt have remained steady during the week, while groundnut oil
prices registered decrease of Rs. 3 per kg. Retail prices of most
variety of pulses registered marginal increase.
Prices of rice, wheat, gram dal, milk, mustard oil, vanaspati and salt
remained steady over the last fortnight and atta, groundnut oil and
onion prices decreased during the same period.
