The guns haven't yet fallen silent in the valley. Official estimates
put the toll of militancy in Kashmir at over 65,000 in the last two
decades but it's the intangible losses that perhaps can never be
quantified. Such as the fate of children whose parents have been
killed by bombs hurled from both sides - the army and the militants.
Amidst this picture of gloom, stands a structure in the heart of
Srinagar, where joy, knowledge and above everything else, hope rules
supreme. And it's brought about by a 65-year-old man who has taken it
upon himself to restore the last vestiges of innocence in a land
ravaged by hostility and violence…

Rajouri, Dec 28: At a time when humanity is faced with challenges of
discord, painters of repute made a call for unity through their art
from the border district of Rajouri. The occasion was five-day All
India Painters Mela held at Himalayan Education Mission College,
Thandikassi and organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture
and Languages… Renowned artist from Gujarat, Kanu Patel translated his
ideas about the need for strong bond between people in his paintings.
Pointing towards unrest and mistrust between the people of various
regions, Patel was of the opinion that only art can bridge the gap
created by political leaders and can bring them close. He said that
art teaches lesson of love, affection and unity and can play a vital
role in bringing normalcy in the sub-continent…

COLOMBO: India is to provide artificial limbs and walking devices for
the war affected people in the North in January, 2010 through a non-
governmental organization called 'Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata
Samiti', government sources said yesterday.
The Indian government is providing financial assistance for this
organization to carry out its mission in Sri Lanka. According to
sources, there are around 2000 persons in need of artificial limbs and
other walking devices in the North…
