Lakshmikantapur: Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
The five-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign (PIC) ended at the Bijoygunj Bazar grounds here tonight with two vigorous rounds of penultimate seminars-cum-interactive sessions with local people on RTI and Bharat Nirman components of rural development schemes. The concluding session held late this evening included presentation of certificates and awards to the outstanding participants that included winners of developmental quiz and rural sports, panchayat bodies, NGOs and SHGs. This was followed with dances and folk music presentation by the Song and Drama Division artists. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri C. M. Jatua on January 23rd last had formally inaugurated this PIC fair, the second in last two years in South 24-Parganas district, West Bengal.
Presiding over the concluding function, Shri Santanu Palodhi, Addl. Director General (M&C), PIB, Kolkata expressed thanks to the locals for their massive participation in the PIC events held during the past five days. He commended the official agencies, panchayat representatives and officials of the district of South 24-Parganas and especially the block level officers in Mandirbazar who contributed their best to make the 16th PIC in West Bengal a great success. Elected representatives to the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samities of the district of 24-Parganas, on this occasion requested the media agencies of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, especially PIB to have similar events, smaller if not on this scale, at various places in the coming months and years.
The day's events began in the morning with sports events organized by DFP exclusively for housewives and girls and awareness oriented stage presentation by Song and Drama Division. The first seminar of the day was held on Bharat Nirman related Centrally sponsored schemes aimed at improving rural infrastructure, health care and village economy. Another interactive session on RTI Act followed the first seminar. Panchayat Development Officers, BDOs and Field Publicity Officers of the Union Government took part in question answer sessions in both the deliberations.
PIB, as the nodal agency plans and executes Bharat Nirman PICs in active association with the other media and field agencies of the Central Government – DAVP, DFP, Song and Drama Division, Films Division, AIR and Doordarshan. Interactive seminars, audio-visual exhibitions, sports and quiz events, awareness rallies, health camp and financial facilities by gramin banks are regular events in the PIC events. The countrywide series of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign was launched by the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry four years back in 2006. A total of 324 campaigns have been organized all over India in all the states and union territories.
