SHRI JATUA ASSURES BETTER EXPOSURE TO ARTISANS AND FOLK ARTISTS
Luxmikantapur: Monday, January 25, 2010.
Fourteen Self Help Groups (SHG) from an equal number of gram panchayats, mostly comprising of only women members, have got an opportunity to display and sell their handicraft items at the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign (PIC) fair being held at the Natter Math grounds here. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Chowdhury Mohan Jatua personally interacted with two to three representatives of each SHG, formed and working under the Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana – a scheme of the Government of India under its Bharat Nirman flagship projects, to take a stock of the ground level implementation of the project and get a feel of their hardships. Shri Jatua, during his second visit to the PIC fair last evening, gave these rural skilled entrepreneurs a patient hearing and assured them to do his best through the zilla parishad network.
PICs, a nation-wide field publicity series underway for the past four years, are conducted by the field publicity and media agencies of the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Each PIC is held for five days in the rural backyards of India. Planned and executed by Press Information Bureau in active assistance and participation of DFP, DAVP, Song and Drama Division, Films Division, Doordarshan and AIR, the campaign runs as a sprawling rural fair comprising of day-long cultural events, packaging a very useful series of interactive seminars and practical sessions for the masses aimed at their awareness towards the ongoing Centrally sponsored schemes for betterment of rural infrastructure, health care and economy.
NGOs, Semi Government organizations, Administrative Agencies and SHGs doing commendable job in the concerned areas are brought under a one-umbrella ambiance of interaction at the PIC fair. The SHG activists and common members are provided with free stalls to show their skills and earn some money by way of sales.
Shri Jatua, during his interaction with the participants on Sunday late evening, said efforts would be made to provide the SHG members with more marketing opportunities and exposure of their produce to the urban consumers. Later, the minister interacted with tribal artists who presented an evening of folk songs and dance announced that Doordarshan authorities would be directed to give increased exposure to the traditional performing art of these true sons of the soil. Their programmes would be beamed from the national network of Doordarshan as well, he said.
