SEMINAR ON CANCER DETECTION AND PREVENTION
Kolkata, February 19, 2010

Prevention is better than cure - the popular saying is best applied
for cancer. Majority of oral cancers are related to effects of tobacco
in any form .The youngsters of the society should be motivated to give
up the socially and economically devastating evil of using tobacco in
any form. Unawareness and carelessness too often leads to late stage
of diagnosis and hence results in dismal outcome.  More than 90% of
cancers can be treated if detected early. Early detection and
treatment also increases the chances of cure. Cervical and breast
cancer can be easily detected through a bit more consciousness and
awareness.

To highlight all the above points, Global Cancer Trust - an
organization involved in preventing the present and the future
generation from the deadly disease organized a Health Awareness and
Cancer Prevention seminar at the City Centre in Salt Lake, Kolkata
today. The programme highlighted that the changing lifestyle is one of
the major risk factor for the rapid increase in cancer cases. It also
stressed on the fact that media is one of the most important modality
to penetrate any message to the masses at the earliest and in this
respect the speakers sought the help of the fourth estate to raise
awareness of common people .The programme began with a motivational
lecture and later held a panel discussion on "Health Awareness
Campaign- How Much Do They Help?"
