INTERNATIONAL LEATHER GOODS FAIR
Kolkata: February 18, 2010

The 15th edition of the premier International Leather Goods Fair
begins in Kolkata tomorrow. It will be inaugurated by Dr. Subas Pani,
Chairman and Managing Director, India Trade Promotion Organization
(ITPO) at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. The Principal Secretary
(Commerce & Industry), Government of West Bengal, Dr. Sabyasachi Sen,
will be also present on the occasion.

As a specialized event of the leather industry, this three-day fair is
being organized by the ITPO in collaboration with Council for Leather
Exports (CLE) and Indian Leather products Association (ILPA) and
supported by the Government of West Bengal. The event is also
supported by the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and
Freya-the Design Studio.

The display profile covers a wide range of small leather products such
as handbags, wallets, portfolios, rucksacks, travel goods, industrial
leather gloves, finished leather, etc. The present edition of the fair
has attracted the participation of as many as 66 leading companies
including a few from overseas either directly or through their Indian
agent. This year about 25 importers have registered under Market
Access Initiative Scheme from West Europe, USA, South Africa,
Australia and Canada. In addition to this, more than 30 other buyers
have also registered in the event website and expected to attend the
fair.

The aim of the fair is to promote small leather goods from India,
especially from Kolkata, which is a major centre for manufacturing of
small leather goods. Over 50 per cent exports of small leather goods
and more than 60 per cent manufacturing of small products are
accounted for by Kolkata.

The fair will be open only to business visitors.
